Black or White review

I really do appreciate the plot of this movie and the story it tells. Certain situations as these happen and really are detrimental to those involved.
This movie is a story about a white man played by Kevin Costner who lives in a upper scale area and is trying to keep custody of his black granddaughter in wake of his wife passing. The aunt of the granddaughter played by Octavia Spencer is trying to take her away with idea that her environment on the lower end although surrounded by family of the same color is what’s best for her. Also thrown into the mix is the little girls father played by Andre’ Holland who is a drug addict that wants to be in his daughters life but doesn’t know how to be a father.
The acting was believable from everyone and the direction and flow of this was also enjoyable. Even though the acting was good I have to say Octavia Spencer had to be the most annoying part of this film. Her facial expressions and attitude in this were a bit much to take. Kevin Costner does an excellent job playing an alcoholic who is struggling with all that has happened and is happening but truly a good man with a good heart. Also Andre’ Holland’s performance was on point and truly good as the drug addicted daddy who also has a good heart to want to be with his daughter. Another honorable mention is the judge played by Paula Newsome. She was cool, on point and just pleasant to have in this movie and always is a pleasure to see.
The way they showed the struggles of these characters was truly believable, engaging and really had you caring for each of the afflicted. It had some heartfelt moments that tugged at you and some hard moments that made you think as well. Truly a good watch that I recommend.
